Go-Green projects get Commission's support

Families to split $50,000 grant to repair Hurricane Dolly damage

It has been more than a year that Hurricane Dolly swept across South Texas leaving more than a billion dollars in damages in her path.
In that time, many families had to live with blue tarps on their roofs, mold on walls and other damage because they’ve been unable to afford costly repairs to the damaged homes.
On Tuesday, the Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation presented the Community Development Corporation of Brownsville with a $50,000 grant to be used to help some of those families...

There are two programs that are giving these low income homeowners a chance to live in some beautiful homes.
At the Campo Real Subdivision new home owners are thrilled to be looking at their soon-to-be brand new homes.
Alma Avelar and Mario Calderon took part in the self help housing program. With the help of the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs and the Community Development Corporation, and their own own hard work.

With construction crews busily laying the groundwork for the Inwood II Subdivision, Wells Fargo delivered an added financial boost to the Community Development Corporation of Brownsville and the affordable housing project. Jerry Romero, community development director for Wells Fargo, gave the nonprofit a check for $300,000 for its housing projects Thursday afternoon.
